The competitive ice climbing season begins this year with the opening of athlete registration for the first UIAA Open North American Championships in Bozeman, Montana (U.S.A) starting on Tuesday, 1 October.
This year's edition of The North Face Kalymnos Climbing Festival 2013 will take place from 10 to 13 October 2013.
The festival will last year's success with the tested format: a PROject competition, i.e. a sort of competitions for a selection of pro climbers at a new sector bolted specifically for the occasion, plus a marathon climbing competition open to all and split into two categories, OPEN and BIG.
The French event takes places 7 – 8 February, 2014 in Champagny-en-Vanoise, followed by the European Youth Championship competition in Pontresina, Switzerland, said Urs Stoecker, president of the UIAA Ice Climbing Commission.
The UIAA is saddened by the tragic death of Roger Payne, former general secretary of the British Mountaineering Council (BMC), who was killed in an avalanche 12 July 2102 on Mont Maudit in the Chamonix region of France along with eight other climbers.
