Historical FIS World Championships in Turkey

 For the first time in history, Turkey will be hosting the FIS Nordic Junior/U23 World Ski Championships. From 19th-26th February 2012 the world's best Nordic junior athletes and U23 Cross-Country skiers will be fighting for medals in the Turkish resort of Erzurum, which hosted the Winter Universiade last year.

 All Cross-Country skiing and Nordic Combined competitions will take place in the Kandilli Nordic Ski Center, which covers an area of 160 hectares. The Cross-Country and Biathlon Center is located 37 km away from the city of Erzurum. The competitions in the Kandilli Cross-Country venue will be carried out on 2.5km, 3.75km and 5km courses and two (1.6km and 1.3km) sprint tracks. Meanwhile, the Ski Jumping competitions will be held in at the Kiremitlik Tepe in Erzerum itself. The HS 109 hill record holder there is Yumu Harada (JPN) who jumped 106.0 m on 31st January 2011.
